
About District
The Pudukkottai district is bounded in Latitude 78°25” and 79° 15”E Longitude and between 9° 50” and 10° 40” N Latitude covered in an area of 4651 Sq.km. It is bounded on the northeast and east by Thanjavur District, on the southwest by Ramanathapuram and Sivanganga District, and on the west and northwest by Tiruchirappalli District.
The district has rich deposits of Roughstone, Granite and Gravel, deposits distributed in the tertiary sediments mostly are covered by earth. There are currently 65 minor mineral leases in the district. The total revenue collected during the year 2023-24 is Rs.16.95 Crore. Under DMFT Rs. 9.518 Crore has been collected from existing lease holders/Permit holders for the period of 2017-24.
Government of India enacted Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015 with effect from 12.01.2015 mandating the State Government to establish District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), in all the districts, to work for the interest and benefit of the persons and areas affected by mining under Section 9B of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015.
Subsequently, the Government of India, framed the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) to be implemented by DMFT and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 20A of the MMDR Act, 1957 (Act), in the interest of nation, directed the State Government concerned to incorporate the PMKKKY into the rules framed by them for the DMFT and to implement the said scheme.

District Mineral Foundation Rules:
In the exercise of the power conferred by the Section 9B, the sub-section (4) of Section 15 and Section 15A of theMines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015, Government framed Tamil Nadu District Mineral Foundation Rules, 2017 in G.O.Ms.No.57, Industries(MMD.1) Department on 19.05.2017.
Subsequently, as ordered by the Government of India, Ministry of Mines in F.No.7/9/2021-M.IV dated 23.04.2021 to include the elected representatives viz. all Member(s) of Parliament of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and also the Member(s) of Legislative Assembly from all constituencies in the Governing Council and Managing Committee of the DMFT by making amendments in the Rules, the Government have issued notification on 11.03.2022 in (G.O.Ms.No.35/Industries Department on 11.03.2011 amending the composition of Governing Council including the elected representatives.
Establishment of District Mineral Foundation Trust in Pudukkottai District:
The District Mineral Foundation Trust was established in Pudukkottai District in Tamil Nadu vide District Collector, Rc.No.2027/Mines/2017. The Trust was registered on 22.09.2017 with the Governing Council and Managing Committee headed by the District Collector as with Chairperson.
